Tomokazu Komiya

Tomokazu Komiya, born in 1973, has been with the TCG essentially since the start — his first Japanese cards date back to Expansion Sheet 1, with Neo Genesis as his first English release — and his roughly 270 cards are some of the most instantly recognisable on the secondary market. He works in a primitivist vein, with deliberately deformed proportions, exaggerated facial features and loose, unusual colour choices, often set against very distinct flat backgrounds. He also illustrates Pokémon Tales picture books, and contributed Van Gogh-styled Sunflora and Smeargle pieces to the 2023 Pokémon × Van Gogh project.
